Mount Cutting

What is it?

Mounts are the card surround placed around a picture.  Apertures are cut into the board using computerised precision cutting techniques that give a print, painting or photograph the perfect backdrop they need before being put into a frame.  The right mount, positioned in the right place, can make or break the final look of a display and can be worked to perfection by selecting the best match of mounting board, colour, thickness and texture to the art.  Mounts can also be used in layers.

At Art Imaging we use a state-of-the-art computerised mount cutting machine that cuts to perfection every time and allows us to cut thousands of mounts a day.

And, we go one step further. We use embellishing and embossing techniques for clients who want to add a distinctive individuality or branding effect to their framed artwork.  This is particularly popular for:
•    corporate certificate frames
•    limited edition prints
•    portrait photographs
Embossing a subtle line indent into the mount is particularly effective for limited edition prints and photographers prints, and logo designs can be cut into a top layer mount either partially or completely so that the bottom layer shows through.  The possibilities for this type of branding are endless and we’re always happy to discuss ideas in more detail – the more creative the better….

Mount chevrons are used in the mount selection process. They are simply placed at the corner of an image/photograph to help decide which combination of mount and frame works best.

We’re happy to work on a bespoke one-off mounted piece of work or high volume quantities of 10,000+

Why?

Mounts perform several important tasks:

•    they set-off and enhance the artwork to perfection
•    they keep the artwork off the glass or acrylic in a frame
•    they add value to the finished product
•    they protect the image from long-term damage
•    they can be used creatively for branding and promotion purposes
