Art Imaging started out in 2004 as contract framers for the leisure industry and have since gone from strength to strength. We’re now building up our client base with a wide range of businesses including interior designers, photographers and retailers, as well as property developers, ‘buy to let’ businesses and other commercial enterprises, all of whom are keen to enhance their working spaces with bespoke framed solutions.
We see contract framing as building up an excellent rapport and working relationship with our clients and taking the time and trouble to discuss in intricate detail exactly what they want to achieve from their artwork display, things like:
• discussing the overall branding of a company, the kinds of imagery that fit within this branding, and the look & feel they are trying to convey • helping with the choice of imagery itself • providing an overall costing for artwork preparation, printing, mounting, framing, and delivery • advising on the right kind of mount and frame for the chosen imagery • measuring, calculating and advising on the required display area, taking other elements into consideration such as colour, space, light, furniture, and the function of the interior itself • taking the hassles of artwork preparation away from the client, sourcing and providing print costs and dealing with the complete print process • supplying high volumes of framed artwork • giving an accurate time schedule of works and always delivering on time
We always keep our clients’ ultimate objectives in mind. That is, to provide them with quality bespoke framed solutions that compliment and accentuate their contemporary working spaces, whether it’s a one-off framed artwork display or multiple framed artworks across a range of environments.

What is it?Mounts are the card surround placed around a picture. Apertures are cut into the board using computerised precision cutting techniques that give a print, painting or photograph the perfect backdrop they need before being put into a frame. The right mount, positioned in the right place, can make or break the final look of a display and can be worked to perfection by selecting the best match of mounting board, colour, thickness and texture to the art. Mounts can also be used in layers.
At Art Imaging we use a state-of-the-art computerised mount cutting machine that cuts to perfection every time and allows us to cut thousands of mounts a day.
And, we go one step further. We use embellishing and embossing techniques for clients who want to add a distinctive individuality or branding effect to their framed artwork. This is particularly popular for: • corporate certificate frames • limited edition prints • portrait photographs Embossing a subtle line indent into the mount is particularly effective for limited edition prints and photographers prints, and logo designs can be cut into a top layer mount either partially or completely so that the bottom layer shows through. The possibilities for this type of branding are endless and we’re always happy to discuss ideas in more detail – the more creative the better….
Mount chevrons are used in the mount selection process. They are simply placed at the corner of an image/photograph to help decide which combination of mount and frame works best.
We’re happy to work on a bespoke one-off mounted piece of work or high volume quantities of 10,000+
Why?Mounts perform several important tasks:
• they set-off and enhance the artwork to perfection • they keep the artwork off the glass or acrylic in a frame • they add value to the finished product • they protect the image from long-term damage • they can be used creatively for branding and promotion purposes
What is it?Block mounting or board mounting is the process of bonding a print or canvas onto an MDF block. We bond the artwork onto an MDF board using a hot vacuum press and can add a final spectacular finish with a laminate film or varnish.
Why?Block mounting adds extra depth and dimension to artwork and photographs, and provides the perfect framework for hanging purposes. The heat sealing process provides an ultimate protective layer and helps to maintain a long-term crispness and vibrancy.
Canvas prints can look particularly impressive mounted this way. The sides of the print/mount can be painted either with matte black or white emulsion, or they can be ‘gallery’ wrapped around the sides of the block so that they become an integral part of the picture.
This type of mount is popular in retail and leisure environments due to its cost-effectiveness and longevity.

What is it?Painting on stretched canvas was pioneered by the Venetians in the 16th century who originally used linen twill sail cloth for the back-cloth material. It’s still a popular medium for oil and acrylic artists today who use a range of surfaces including linen, cotton, jute and less expensive synthetic options. Wooden stretcher bars provide the support frame for the canvas.
Why?Stretched canvases not only make durable painting surfaces, they’re light and portable, and very versatile to display. It’s a suitable display method not only for original canvases but also for canvas giclee prints that can be stretched and mounted in the same way as an original. Canvas originals and prints provide a clean, modern, and stylish display in many different kinds of contemporary interiors.
Help at the pre-framing and artworking stage The technologies of modern day photography, graphic design and image reproduction have created enormous scope for choice and selection of artwork and imagery for framing and display purposes. At Art Imaging, we know that, what works in theory as the perfect image or artwork creation, is not always easy to achieve without the knowledge, know-how and equipment to deal with the techi side of things such as:
• image resolution • dpi (dots per image) • scanning • artworking and making good an image • preparing an image for print • print proofing
We’re here to help with any of these aspects.
Help at any stage of the creative process whatever your needsWe work with photographers, creative managers, graphic and interior designers, the printed media, and also traditional and mural artists. Many of these professionals will already be familiar with the artworking, design and printing stages and we’re happy to advise and help at any stage of this process or to simply stick to the end-product stage of framing, mounting and display.
Sourcing printsSome of our contract clients may be looking for a certain artists’ work or a type of imagery that works well in their interiors and, if so, we can help source prints from any of the major publishing houses.
Contact us for help with any of these pre-framing stages.
